PicSpam - Two Months in!

I've been remiss in posting updates.  We have plenty of pictures, just haven't gotten around to updating.  We're at the two-month mark so far and in just two short months, they should be done and we'll move in at some point in January.

Without further adieu...PICSPAM!!!

Back in late may we went to the design center to pick everything out (carpet, paint, fixtures, etc.)  Here are our choices, but it's been so long I barely remember what they look like, yikes!

Construction Progress: One Month Done

Okay, so we have been a little more than remiss in posting construction updates!  I'll post some pic spam of all the progress as they have gotten a lot done.  We have walls, framing, and the beginnings of a second floor.  I hear rumors of a framed out roof, but not photographic or visual sitings yet.  (Maybe after tomorrow night's date night!)

After about a week...

At nearly the four week mark, here is the most recent picture and you can see the framing of the second floor.  This is Troy's Studios in the front above the garage.

We have stairs and walls (sort of)!

Let the construction begin!

In these days of crazy social media, Troy and I have decided that in lieu of posting everything on Facebook about the construction of our condo, we would start a blog and allow our nearest and dearest to watch the progress of the construction.  As of today, we are officially one week into the first part of the construction process - foundation and walls.

We are so excited to take this huge step forward in our lives together and know that this process is both exciting and daunting.  The year 2012 is going to be a huge year of growth and change for us.

Our condo is located near Magic Kingdom in an area that is going to explode with growth in the course of the next couple of years.  It doesn't feel touristy, despite literally being less than 2 minutes from the Cast entrance.  Most exciting is that the builder has been very accommodating with accessibility modifications and the first floor features a Master bedroom, so no worry about needing a stairlift for me.  Troy will have his studio at the top of the stairs and the music can fill the entire unit.

They have been preparing for construction for quite awhile as they needed to sell 4 of the 8 units before even planning to break ground.  I love how our street is called Tranquility Way!  Everything in the development has peaceful names.

We are hopeful to move in around the first of the year.  Of course, construction never quite goes as planned, so I hope that their target of late December holds true.  The units across the street have gone up at a reasonable pace.  As you can see from this picture in May to the left, there is no hint of a building, but their land was scraped.  Now they have a complete building constructed.

In late May we went to the Design Center and had the daunting task of picking everything out for our unit in a matter of about 4 hours.  It was great to make all of the choices in a convenient location, but so much to consider and run through.  (My parents benefits from watching us make all of our choices. Not that it shaved much time of their appointment a few weeks later.)  As my mom jokes, we just have to hope that they put the right options in the right unit.  We have completely different styles.

In the beginning of August, the scraping and preparation for laying the foundation commenced.  It is definitely becoming so much more real for both of us.  Now that we could see the outline of where our exact unit was in relation to the building across the street and the parking on the side of the road.  We're pretty sure that the Magic Kingdom fireworks will be visible from the street corner!

As if the universe could not make August 13th a more perfect day, the foundation for the condo was actually poured that morning!  Troy and I drove by early in the day as we were hoping to bury a little something in the dirt beneath the house.  Of course, they had already poured the foundation, so no chance of that happening.  Maybe I should have known something was up when he wanted to throw my promise ring in the cement?  Actually, our timing was so good that we saw them working specifically on the ramp into our unit.

Overall, we will not have a ton of modifications to the condo.  The downstairs will have a few tweaks to the Master Bathroom (roll-in shower, raise toilet, cut out in cabinets, extra room for my chair) and the actual ramp for me to get into the house.  We'll see when they do the electrical wiring if we need to lower any switches, but that will not happen for a few more weeks.

In the next installment, we hope to have pictures of the first level construction and walls.  Troy and I plan to try and update this blog as much as possible with changes, etc.  We are still figuring out how this whole blog thing works!

Love,
Katie & Troy
